I am best known for my bronze sculptures of animals, namely thoroughbred horses, birds and dogs. One notable critic on encountering my very first bronze sculpture Point to Point at Saratoga in 1981 opined that I would be known as the "The Remington of the Racetrack."
My bronze sculptures may be found in numerous museum, private, corporate and public collections throughout the World as well as on permanent public display in Washington DC, New York NY, Annapolis MD, Columbus, OH and Montgomery, Al. My studio is located in Hickory, North Carolina where my works in progress may be seen by scheduling an appointment. Commissions for new work, either figurative or abstract, are welcomed.
My most recent major figurative sculpture was a 2016 bronze of three life-size St Bernard dogs for the new College of Veterinary Medicine at Ohio State University in Columbus, Ohio.
Along with art, I have always had a great love for animals, especially horses and dogs so it was quite natural that when I began to pursue my interest in creating sculpture, that the horse became my first choice as a subject matter. As both a rider as well as an owner of hunters and jumpers show horses, I felt confident that my knowledge of the anatomy and movement of the horse would allow me to create sculpture that could accurately portray the beauty, athleticism, and majesty of these magnificent animals.
My equestrian themed sculptures were well received and that in turn gave me the confidence to create a large body of sculpture celebrating the animal kingdom that would ultimately include a large body of sculptures of birds, dogs, cats, and marine life.
Along with all my animal related figure sculptures I’ve also created several works, some with a distinct narrative, and others that portray the human figure.
I guess I could say that my love of life is my love of nature in all its bounty and diversity that have given me an endless number of intriguing subjects for my art. I find that some, like micro-organisms for example, can be beautifully expressed in relief through my biomorphic abstractions, where others such as a glorious sun-drenched farm yield can best be expressed in relief by way of a representational form.
What I hope you the viewer come away with from seeing my work, is a body of work that is not only highly diverse in both style and materials, but one that speaks volumes with passion, movement and energy.
